Winter 2019 capsule wardrobe

Dec 29, 2018

We're officially already over a week deep into Winter, but I wouldn't want to break my habit of starting my capsules a bit late, so here we are ;). I hope you all had a lovely Christmas dinner, without the usual indigestion to follow - I know I sure needed some time to recover from mine! But anyway, let's dive into that closet now, ey?!

Looking back on Fall

I thought I'd start with looking back on my fall wear tracker. It's been quite difficult to always remember to keep a tally, but I did it enough to provide me with some interesting insights in my wear habits.

As you can see, a few items definitely stuck out in number of wears. I wore my high waist blue jeans 17 times, my biker jacket and black fluffy sweater 13 times and my long leather coat 11 times. In the shoe front, the scores are a bit more even, but still, my sturdy boots stuck out with a total of 8 wears.

For all of you who are wondering why the numbers are so low, please remember that I wear a uniform to work, so my own clothes are only worn during weekends, and occasionally during outings in the evening (but most of the times I jump straight into comfy joggings or pj's).

I'm not really all that surprised by these results, since the items that got the most wears are all great basics, which are easy to combine - accept for maybe the leather mac which is more of a throw-on statement. But this does teach me that looking for a worthy replacement for once these fall apart, or similar items that I could wear and love just as much would not be a waist of time nor money.

Furthermore I have loved wearing my thrifted pink argyle print sweater (I love how its preppy golfing image juxtaposes with my buzzcut hair) and the leopard wrap skirt (also thrifted) even though I've only worn it once because it was actually way to cold for this thin summery piece of fabric.

There are also a few items I did not wear at all. Mostly due to coincidence or weather conditions, but in the case of my white blouse with trumpet sleeves, I must admit it's because a) the sleeves are unbelieveably impractical and b) let's face it, it was a trend item when I bought it, but it's now a bit passé. I'm not ditching this piece just yet, but if I don't wear it at all this winter either, I might consider trying to find another owner for it.

Winter 2019

In my new capsule I decided to add quite a few of those pieces who have been hanging around in my closet for a while without getting quite the amount of wears they deserve. This will be a period of evaluation for them. Of course, I also mixed in some much loved favourites.

Challenging pieces in the jacket area are: my pink feather vest which I bought for New Year's Eve 7 years ago (I just looked that up on Facebook, crazy how long ago! I'm so old!) and haven't really worn all that much since and my velvet black blazer (not the one depicted, the cut is definitely not as sharp) which seemed good in theory, but just never seemes to really work when I put it on.

Then, as said, the trumpet sleeve blouse. And in the dresses and skirts section: a pink H&M shirt dress that I bought a few years ago, but that's just a tad too transparent and my thrifted pleated black skirt that really love, but somehow almost never wear.

Pieces I'm really looking forward to wearing are my vintage lammy coat (best purchase everrrrrr!), the leopard print blouse I thrifted a few weeks ago, short skirts, my second hand leather pants and the pink corduroys I scored on Etsy. The latter still need some adjusting though. I already had them taken in once, but they're still a bit too wide around the hips. I'm great at postponing things like going to the tailor's though, so who knows when that's going to happen!
